Q: Which editing suites are supported by these sets?
A: Our virtual sets are designed to work with several popular professional video editing solutions, including Adobe After Effects, Final Cut Pro, and NewTek SpeedEDIT™, as well as on the Tricaster system. Please make sure to select the appropriate LiveSet (Tricaster) or non-linear editing (NLE) version for your purchase, based on the the system you are using.

Q: Are any plug-ins required to run the sets?
A: No, plug-ins are not required for these sets.

Q: How can the sets be altered?
A: When you unzip the file and open it in your editing suite, you will see a tab that shows all the customizable options. The sets can be altered and customized in five key ways:

  • You can turn on and off elements within the sets; e.g., remove a desk or add a video input in a monitor
  • You can use real furniture on the set, taking care to adjust the staging and proportions
  • You can insert your own custom logos and artwork in the appropriate areas
  • You can modify some of the colors and textures of the sets, within defined parameters
  • Your talent can be placed in front of or behind objects

Q: Can I use an actual desk, sofa or other furniture with the virtual set?
A: Yes. You can turn off the layers with the furniture, so you can use your own items.

Q: Can I add or change a logo on the virtual set?
A: Yes, the logo variant can also be removed or changed in those sets that have a logo.

Q: Can I zoom in on any of the camera angles?
A: Yes, the cameras can zoom in up to 200%.

Q: Do I have to know how to scale my talent to make them “fit” the set?
A: If you are using one of the NLE versions, you will need to scale the talent on camera appropriately. If you are using the LiveSet version, you can scale the talent within the set in the TriCaster.

Q: Will we be able to do our own modifications to any sets?
A: Most of our video virtual sets give you the option to turn elements on and off within the design (e.g., to add or remove furnishings), and to add inputs (e.g., video playing inside of monitors). If you are using a TriCaster, we also offer Virtual Set Editor software that will enable you to make additional changes within our LiveSet virtual sets, or to create virtual sets of your own. Click here for more information about the Virtual Set Editor software.

Q: Will the set work in HD file format?
A: Yes, all of our video virtual sets are at a resolution that can be used in high definition. You can zoom and switch angles inside the set.

Q: What are the most common challenges?
A: You want to film in the highest resolution possible and scale your talent proportionately to the set after removing the green key. A common mistake is making the talent too large.

Q: What should I watch out for when using DV?
A: DV causes compression that results in detail averaging. This causes jagged edges. To minimize this problem, set your sharpness, detail or contrast control all the way down, or off, if possible. This will eliminate over-sharp edges that will cause problems in keying. Use analog output for your DV deck, preferably the component outlet. Analog filters will reduce the damage done by DV compression.
